The Natural Diets Are Not Natural

There has been a recent increase in “all natural grain free diets”.  This has been particularly evident in the number of “Blue……… “ diets.  The basic premise being that all meat diets are better for dogs and cats because that is what they eat in the wild. Wolves and members of the cat family while being primarily carnivores get some of their nutrition from cereal grains and fruits as well. They get this additional nutrition when they eat their “kill”, including the digestive contents.  The premise that dogs and cats eat only meat products is a well conceived advertising concept but is a FRAUD. All meat diets are high in the mineral phosphorus and this can be detrimental to large breed dogs and especially to their pups. Bone is a calcium based material and phosphorus binds up calcium in the blood. This causes calcium to be leached from the bone and may result in severe skeletal problems that look very similar to Rickets. Raw meat diets are more likely to produce bacterial intestinal diseases such as salmonellosis or coliform enteritis, especially if the food is not handled properly (This is also a source for human contamination). “Natural” foods often have inadequate vitamins and minerals, as if they are not obtained from a natural source they cannot be included as a synthetic compound. The American Feed Control Officials ( AAFCO) lists common ingreditents in pet foods- visit the ( Resources) @ http://todaysveterinarypractice.com.The commercial pet  food manufacturers invest a lot of time and money into formulating a nutritious diet that  rarely causes food allergies. You would be smart to utilize their research and not purchase FAD DIETS .
